Mex Uno Team Riders
The Mex Uno team consists of surfers of all abilities, including competitive surfers, former Mexican National Champions, big-wave chargers, as well as recreational surfers.
San Blas Surfers and Mex Uno
Our current team riders are surfers from San Blas, Nayarit, Mexico, a small fishing village that was a surfing hot spot during the 1960s and ’70s and the hometown of custom surfboard shaper Jorge Boyce. During that time Matanchen Bay, a beach located about 4 miles from San Blas, was known for possessing what was then the longest wave in the world.
Because of the influx of surfers during the ’60s and ’70s, surfing was picked up by a number of locals and the number of young surfers continued to grow through the 1990s. In the late 1970s surfers organized to form the San Blas Surf Club and by the eighties San Blas surfers were competing in local, national, and international surf competitions.
Historically, San Blas has produced a significant amount of Mexico’s surfing talent but now, thanks to Jorge’s work, is also being recognized for having a quality surfboard shaper.
