San Diego, California is a major surf center, for surfers and surfboard shapers alike. There are a number of prominent San Diego shapers, and many of them have influenced the sport of surfing and are recognized around the globe for their ability to make surfboards.

Who Needs a Custom Surfboard?

There are many benefits to having your very own custom surfboard. A board that is right for you can influence not only performance but your state of mind and motivation for surfing. Having a surfboard that you feel 100% comfortable and sure-footed on can make a world of difference in your progression as a surfer. There is nothing worse than being out in the lineup on a board that you have little or no confidence in, or that does not respond well to your style of surfing and the waves you are riding. Surfing is all about feel, feeling the way your board responds to your carves or snaps; feeling the wave, finding those pockets of power that will help you generate the speed you need to make the next section or link your turns.

Surfing is a highly mental sport, which means that if you are stoked to go surf you will have fun; if you are comfortable and confident in the equipment you are riding then you will surf with full commitment and your surfing will progress. This is why it is important to know in your mind that you are riding the best possible surfboard for YOU.

However, a custom surfboard is not for everyone. If you are asking yourself, “Do I need a custom surfboard?”, hopefully the following will shed some light on why (and when) you should take that next step and get a custom-made board.
