About Mex Uno Shaper, Jorge Boyce
Mex Uno surfboard shaper and owner, Jorge Boyce began shaping surfboards in San Blas, Mexico over 10 years ago. In 2002 Jorge moved back to California to continue the development of his shaping skills. After picking up numerous tips from many local surfboard shapers in the San Diego area, Jorge applied what he learned, tested his own theories, and ultimately developed into a well-rounded surfboard shaper.
Jorge has shaped custom surfboards for numerous surfers that compete on the Mexican National Circuit (including former Mexican longboard champion Jose Manuel Cano), in local San Diego surf competitions (including the Sun Diego Surf Series, Revolt Summer Surf Series, and WSA), as well as for some Central California big-wave surfers.
Surfboard Shaping Philosophy
For Jorge, shaping surfboards is an art form. He strives to combine traditional forms of surfboard shaping with modern techniques, and encourages surfers to try new designs and shapes, in an effort to create the best possible surfboard for each individual surfer. Jorge is skilled at shaping many different types of surfboards, from retro and fish surfboards, to longboards, high performance shortboards, and “gun” surfboards.
